The Jetlev R200, which sucks in water through a long hose before shooting it back out in a powerful stream, can lift users up to 30ft high.
Instructor Dean O'Malley demonstrated the 20lb gadget in Newport Beach, California — hovering over the water.
Punters can rent the gizmo, which is attached to a pod, for £150 a day.
Dean said: "This is actually fairly light so it doesn't take much pressure to get you into the air.
"The key to the whole thing is they off-loaded the weight from the pack into the actual pod unit."
